Voulnerability
The high speed access (cable
or DSL) capability is great, I love it - when I first
got my cable it was like: "Ye, Baby"! But it does
open you up to extra risks since your Internet
connection is probably open all day, even when you are not using it.
I remembered that I have read someone recomending Black
Ice - so I
looked for it on the Net and I bouhgt it.
Intrusions on the Internet are common because hackers do
frequent
scans looking for systems they can break into. A typical hacker may scan
thousands. He or she isn't targeting you personally. Every day I had at least
five attacs on my computer through my
cable hookup. Hackers were probing to see if they could get in and the
others were checking to see if I had a specific Trojan program that
might have compromised my system so that they could get in.
This is a
regular daily occurrence. I'm able to tell you all this because of Black Ice,
otherwise I would never knew about all those probes
that were hiting my machine. BlackIce
is an intrusion detection program (firewall) that detects and stops any
attacks. It also logs in the attacks so
that I can see what they were, logs the IP address of the attacker and advises
you what to do. The BlackIce Defender
is only about $40.
